Web Exploration: The Dakota Conflict
- "Minnesota's Uncivil War" by Mark Steil and Tim Post, Minnesota Public Radio
- Recently Minnesota Public Radio featured a great piece exploring the modern repercussions of the Dakota Conflict. This site is a must for anyone fascinated by this dark history, detailing scars that yet remain.
- "Famous American Trials: The Dakota Conflict Trials of 1862" by Douglas Linder
- If you can get past the funky pastel backgrounds, this site fascinates. Complete with maps, photos of key figures, and even a retro-looking cartoon history first published by the St. Paul Pioneer Press in 1962, there's something here for all.
- "Dakota War of 1862." Minnesota Historical Society
- This is the best site to visit to glimpse primary sources, in particular photographs and drawings from the conflict and trials. I wish I could display some here—in particular the haunting painting of the hanging in Mankato—but there are copyright issues at stake.
- "The Dakota Conflict Webquest" by Anthony Shields
- This is a great site for students and teachers, including video clips and activities suitable for classroom exploration.
